Background

Ralph graduated with high honor from Wheaton College in 1971 and from Northwestern University School of Law in 1974. He was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1974, to the United States District Court, including its trial bar, in 1981, to the United States Court of Appeals in 1986, to the United States Supreme Court in 1989, and to the United States Court of Military Appeals in 1990. Ralph’s deep knowledge of workers’ compensation law is enhanced by a broad perspective gained from his private practice and more than forty years before the bar.

Ralph was commissioned into the Army of the United States upon graduation from college and later transferred into the reserve. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1999 after twenty-eight years of federal service, particularly in the Army Medical Department, with duty throughout the United States and the Republic of Panama.

Contributions

Ralph has lectured on the subject of workers’ compensation to many professional and business groups and taught as an adjunct professor at his alma mater, Wheaton College. He and his wife, Marcia, have served on numerous civic, educational, and charitable boards and commissions.
